Math: Students completed a check in to assess their understanding of patterns and algebra. We have moved on to an introduction to fractions.
Science: We had the founder and director of the Calgary Tesla Society come for a presentation to talk about Nikola Tesla's achievements and biography - as per our electricity unit. Students were introduced to a challenge task this week. The task is to separate the mixture of salt, gravel, and sand that is often found on roads in the springtime. Students wrote their own ideas with diagrams, and they will continue this next week by collaborating with a partner to come up with a procedure and will be executing their experiments this week.
Looking ahead: continue with separating mixtures
Humanities- The students are doing a wonderful job working independently and managing the two humanities projects they are working on. The history project will wrap up this week. Work will be submitted Monday and posted to our class’s history website. Once the website is complete it will be shared and the students will have the opportunity to learn from the work of their classmates. We are beginning week 3 of the novel study. Most students are meeting the deadlines and are on target to complete the novel by the end of next week. This week they will be introduced to the final project that will be completed as they finish their novels.
