We need one more for the morning on April 18th and 4-6 more for Fort Calgary on April 25th. This week brought some changes to grade 5. We welcomed Ms. Monteith on Monday and said goodbye to Ms. Kwong on Friday. The students had 2 periods working with the indigenous artists and are scheduled for one more session next week. Next week we have 2 trips off campus. Each class will spend a half day at Heritage Park participating in a program about the Famous 5 and we will attend the Pow Wow Thursday afternoon. We have adjusted the Fort Calgary trip for the following week to include a full day at the Fort and we will reschedule the St. Patrick's Island activities for a time when the island is drier and the weather is more predictable. Humanities This week in humanities we continued with our examination of First Nations stories. We read and watched several stories together and determined why they would be shared, as well as the lessons we learn from them. Students also worked on writing skills and we started stories that focus on using dialogue. Next week the students will continue working on writing skills and examining groups and people in Canadian history. Science The highlight this week was our visit to Telus Spark. The students spent the day immersed in all the fields of science. They completed challenges and explored the exhibits. A special thanks goes out to the amazing parents that joined us for this trip. There are several photos on the EXPO page of the website that show the fun we had. Math This week the students wrapped up their work with rotational symmetry. The concepts of area and perimeter were introduced, work with this concept will continue next week.
